EMILY’S STORY

Emily runs Innocence Project New Orleans, an organisation which represents people who are sentenced to life imprisonment, and who it believes it can prove are innocent. The RMNEF supported Emily during her final year studying law at Edinburgh University, after a summer working as a volunteer in an office that fought against the death penalty left her short of funds to complete her course. Without the Foundation’s support, Emily would have been unable to gain her law degree and go on to do the vital work that she does. In her time with Innocence Project New Orleans, it has freed or exonerated 22 people from Mississippi and Louisiana’s prisons, who have served a total of 450 years in prison.
