SUPPORTING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

If at least one parent has served at sea as part of the Merchant Navy, we endeavour to support the education, maintenance and upbringing of their children – providing they are no longer in a position to help them themselves. To determine whether a young person is eligible for our services, we will also consider the length of their parent’s sea-service – of course, at the Trustees’ total discretion.

We can help children and young people at any stage of their educational development, from birth
through to the course of their professional career-entry qualifications.
We are here to support them at any of the following stages:

• Day care, pre-school or nursery
• Primary education
• Secondary education
• Further education
• Higher education – to professional entry qualification
• Career training and apprenticeships – to professional entry qualification

In each case, we need to identify a genuine ‘need’ and this will be based upon factors such as domestic environment, locality, health, finance and education.
