Rising tensions in the Middle East and the impact on seafaring families.
Recent developments in the Middle East, including rising tensions involving Iran, are once again highlighting the uncertainty faced by those who work at sea. Periods of geopolitical instability can disrupt international shipping routes, increase security risks for vessels and crews, and place additional pressure on the global maritime industry.
For many of our seafaring families across the UK, these global events are not distant headlines. They can bring real worries about the safety of loved ones working far from home, as well as concerns about job stability and changing shipping routes. Children and young people in seafaring families can feel these pressures too, particularly when parents are away for long periods in challenging circumstances.
At the Royal Merchant Navy Education Foundation (RMNEF), we understand the unique challenges faced by maritime families. Our work supporting the education and wellbeing of children remains as important as ever during uncertain times, helping young people build resilience and opportunity for the future.
