A New Name

1st March 2013

The Royal Merchant Navy School Foundation was established in 1827 as an Orphan Asylum to provide board and lodging for the orphans of British Merchants’ Seamen, and with sufficient education to enable them to gain employment.

However, the Foundation has changed dramatically since then, and over the years has operated an orphan asylum, an orphanage and, until recently, a school.

Today, as demand and facilities have changed, we support children at educational establishments throughout the country – and with this most recent change in mind, we decided to change our name from ‘The Royal Merchant Navy School Foundation’ to ‘The Royal Merchant Navy Education Foundation’. We feel that this name reflects our work and our role in helping young people by ‘enabling education’.

This new name is just the beginning of an entire rebrand for the Royal Merchant Navy Education Foundation, and we look forward to presenting our new logo and website to you in the upcoming months.
